Abstract

This chapter leads readers beyond the known boundaries of previous thinking in strategic leadership and confronts the tensions and paradoxes that this phenomenon carries, thus giving a whole new dimension and category of thinking on strategic leadership. Paradoxes and incongruities are undoubtedly the defining characteristics of organizational ambience, and it is the strategic leader’s task to overcome them, orchestrate the organizational tensions and develop mechanisms that will contribute to the organization’s better embeddedness in the present and future social context. Conflicting discourses, concepts, interests, understandings, or aspirations lead to much organizational tension and many paradoxes that strategic leaders must deal with on a daily basis.
