Servant Leadership During an Epoch of Accelerated Digital Disruption

Abstract

With the collision of a global pandemic, economic crisis, social unrest, and natural disasters, the rate of disruption is far outpacing the rate of human adjustment. In the world of work, these changes call for organizational leaders who are humble, empathic, and morality-centered. This chapter explores one particular leadership paradigm, known as Servant Leadership, and its impact on empowering the personal, professional, and spiritual goals of employees operating in a rapidly shifting digital workplace. In framing this discussion, Servant Leadership will be situated within the Theory of Work Adjustment model, which promotes “correspondence” between the values and abilities of the employees and the reinforcers and requirements of the employer.
