Jesus and Servant-Leadership in the Gospels

Abstract

In all four gospels, Jesus embodies servant-leadership as the ultimate servant. It will be shown that Jesus calls and trains his servant-leaders through many encounters and training sessions. Each evangelist provides some unique perspectives on what it means to be a servant-leader. Jesus’ call and ultimate expression of that call reveal a deeply personal relationship and transformation of the 12 “learners” as he models, instructs, equips, and empowers them to become servant-leaders, who would transform the course of world history. Attention will be given to some specific (not exhaustive) means and texts by which Jesus transforms potential servant-leaders.
