Tired of Sleeping: Trumped Up Trickle Down

Abstract

In the first 2016 Presidential debate, Hillary Clinton claimed that Donald Trump’s economic proposals were little more than “Trumped up trickle down.” While this was an oversimplification, Clinton’s remarks alerted us to an important point: much of what Donald Trump was proposing was torn from the political and economic playbook of Ronald Reagan. Indeed, based on what we have learned through this book, Ronald Reagan, perhaps unwittingly, but unmistakably set the stage for a Trump presidency. Although never explicitly acknowledging Reagan’s political and economic tropes, and topoi, it is clear that Trump has borrowed liberally from his rhetorical and policy legacy.
