Abstract

This chapter discusses the estimated costs of some of the major terror attacks in the global arena, how much it costs to organize a terror attack and different means through which terror organizations raise funds like control of oil production (ISIS), opium leaves (Taliban) and coca leaves (FARC and other organizations in Latin America), kidnapping for ransom, state and diaspora support and charities and fraud. The chapter also describes the modes of transfer of funds for terrorism like the Hawala network and presents a pictorial view of funds transfer prior to the 9/11 attacks and lists the ten richest terrorist organizations as of 2014 and 2017.
