Abstract

This chapter explains how to develop and assess corporate strategy options, based on the analyses that were carried out before. The introductory Sect. 12.1 shows why a corporate strategy is needed by diversified companies. In Sect. 12.2, the corporate options matrix is introduced as a tool to develop strategic options at the corporate level. A case inset offers an example showing how corporate options are developed by an international producer of polymer parts. In Sect. 12.3, an extended version of the Ansoff matrix is presented. It facilitates the systematic development of diversification options. The different forms of diversification and the respective challenges are described. Section 12.4 shows a systematic process for developing and assessing corporate strategy options. Concrete criteria for assessing the options are proposed.
