In: Hidden Champions in the Chinese Century

Abstract

Deep vertical integration is typical of Hidden Champions. Many of them are convinced that uniqueness can only be created internally. At the same time, depth means protection of know-how. But the advance of new technologies is putting these traditional attitudes to the test. If a company cannot develop new competencies fast enough it has to open up to collaboration with external partners and accept a reduction in the depth of value creation.
