Post-Heroic Leadership in the Context of Humanizing Hybrid Work

Abstract

The future of work is quickly shifting, and hybrid work is bound to become the prevailing form on a global level. Post-heroic leadership behaviours can help establish an environment in which remote and hybrid workers can flourish, as leading people from a distance demands a different skill set from both leaders and followers. Currently, there is strong desire for flexible work policies, developing new approaches to work arrangements and designing the offices of tomorrow. However, combining remote and onsite work can mean stress and overwork. A brief history of management thought is presented, arguing for the importance of post-heroic leaders to humanize hybrid work by emphasizing meaning and trust.
