Abstract

This introductory chapter of the book aims to present the recurring issue of market and policy failuresPolicy failures in accessible housingAccessible Housing and aims to highlight the unanswered questions and issues addressed by the contributors of the book. The mismatch between non-spatialized policy aims and the strongly spatialized demand for houses at the local level frames the analysis of the various chapters that try to address the problem of the impacts of urbanizationUrbanization with concentrationConcentration leading to a demand-supply mismatch the presentation of the various parts and chapters of the book justify on the one hand the recommendationRecommendation to look at the connections of housing policiesHousing policies with the spatialized demand and supply of housing and on the other hand the need to understand and monitor the uncontrolled urbanizationUrbanization and concentrationConcentration phenomena.
