M2W and Government

Abstract

Government can either help or hinder in everything, including the effective implementation of M2W as a catalyst for cooperation between all players in the ecosystem. Although most of the time the government is not directly involved in the actual “business” of companies, it is a key player as it can provide the incentives for a better redistribution of benefits across all players in an ecosystem. Therefore, the “We” in M2W must include the role of government as a significant stakeholder in the shared value relationship between the firm and all stakeholders. The role of government runs the gamut from regulator, facilitator, partner, and adversary. Its actions impact shareholders and stakeholders alike. In fact, the government has the capability of “enforcing” the switch from shareholder to stakeholders.
