Abstract

There is in society today an ongoing battle of ideas. Wolfetone, Emmet, Davis, Lalor, the Fenians, Connolly and Pearse waged this war on behalf of a republican cause. In this battle of ideology lie the foundations of the idea of an Invisible Republic, the positive qualities and principles that link us all. These include: (1) the willing republic—a desire to do things better; (2) the idea of a fair go; and (3) the belief in a communal society, in that we should all be progressing together in some positive direction, that we must develop positively as a society, and that individual wealth and prosperity is conditional and must be sited within a healthy society and one person’s enrichment should not be at the expense of another.
