Abstract

“How do social conditions affect the probability of entrepreneurial success in the context of new venture enterprises?” This book chapter, conceived as a systematic literature review, aims at contributing to the debate about effectuation vs. causation. It tentatively answers the question: “What is the impact of causation and effectuation processes on the survival rate of new venture enterprises?” Therefore, it investigates if the former logic eventually prevails in the practice of entrepreneurial process, shedding light on possible contingencies due to different business contexts. In addition, from an empirical point of view, it offers an updated list of “dos and don'ts” to the perspective entrepreneur or intrapreneur in the initial formulation and development of the entrepreneurial idea. These findings can be integrated in an evolutionary setting, based on Schumpeterian and Hayekian perspectives of entrepreneurial learning on different levels.
