Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore the theoretical and practical aspects of green bank lending as one of major areas of green financing. Design/methodology/approach: The methodology is based on the analysis of conceptual aspects of green lending, following from the United Nations Environment Programme and the concept of sustainable development, as well as on the identification of current trends in the field of development of green lending. Findings: The research findings are as follows: approaches to the definition of the concept “green lending” have been identified within the framework of conceptual approaches to the formation of the green economy and green financing in particular; green lending programs have been found in the Russian banking market, which include both individual programs related to environmental protection and green loans which are provided within the framework of sustainable development credits; special aspects of the management of green lending have been presented, which must be based on conventional requirements to lending, but with due regard to the need to take into account the environmental component of the project. Originality/value: The conclusion section of this paper proposes a set of expansionary measures for the development of green lending bank, including in Russia, which cover the list of feasible directions of State support, change of the regulatory environment, and modernization of infrastructure in general.
