India in the System of International Migration: Ecological Aspects of the Population Movement

Purpose: The purpose of the scientific article is to find out and understand the reasons and the consequences of environmental migration in the region of South Asian on the example of Indian Republic. Design/methodology/approach: The authors used the scientific works and investigations of Russian and foreign scholars specializing in issues of international migration, reasons and consequences of environmental migration, position of the Asian countries in the processes of international migration. In carrying out the study, systematic and historical and induction approaches were used to study the trends of Indian participation in environmental migration. Furthermore, statistical, logical, and visualization methods were also incorporated. Findings: One of the biggest omissions is ineffective implementation and development of environment policy, no improvement in India’s overall environmental performance over the past decade. India still remains heavily reliant on coal-fired power generation to support its rapid urbanization and economic growth, which has resulted in high levels of air pollution and associated casualties. At the same time, India is suffering from displacement caused not only by disasters, but social and economic reasons. Originality/value: Authors tried to underline the present problems of the Indian economy in the process of international migration flows, caused by the broad set of factors.
