Abstract

This chapter presents the results of the interdisciplinary and international project aimed in designing the educational informational materials for COVID-19 transmission prevention. The design was developed in cooperation with the indigenous communities and considering their cultural traditions and beliefs. Unstructured interviews and observations of six indigenous communities in Choco region, Colombia, were employed for collecting data about their perception of and behavior during COVID-19 pandemic as an integral part of the design intervention. The chapter highlights how indigenous communities in Choco perceive the pandemic and how local cultural traditions and beliefs influence COVID-19 transmission. It contributes to understanding the development of an effective communicative strategy engaging the indigenous communities in a respectful and to them meaningful way. The chapter also presents practical examples of educational posters which facilitate behavior change to reduce the risks of transmission of the disease in accordance with their cultural traditions.
