Abstract

Overall, Russia has a flawed transport infrastructure that in many regards does not come close to Western standards. Despite progress made in recent years, the quality of infrastructure remains poor. It represents a severe constrains in the connectivity of producers and consumers to global and regional markets. Obviously, the bad infrastructure has negative effects on the economic performance, competitiveness, and growth of regions. According to the latest ranking in The Global Competitiveness Report 2019 Russia was only ranked 50 out of 141 in quality of overall infrastructure (the USA, China, and India are placed 13th, 36th, and 70th, respectively).
