Abstract

The economic ties between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries develop rather dynamically. However, cooperation in the environmental sphere still lags behind, particularly because the economy takes top priority. At the same time, environmental cooperation could contribute to solving problems of both rapid economic growth and environment. This chapter focuses on assessing factors and advantages of cooperation in the environmental sphere, which is one of the key challenging forms of a combined effort and a promising direction of the economic collaboration in the EUEU. The main purpose is to outline the main drivers of joint action in the environmental field, its consistence with the aim of modernization and competitive growth, and countries’ green economy orientation. Special attention is given to the main areas of cooperation, including trade in environmental goods, harmonization of environmental regulation, new projects, and problems in this area. The chapter argues that the challenges may be addressed by combined efforts and attempts to define the prospective areas of EAEU cooperation.
