‘Leaving No One Behind’—Reflections on the Social

This chapter skims the surface, albeit noting the diverse global stimuli, prompting the recognition for and the growing inclusion of, the social dimensions of economic development to be increasingly incorporated within the construct of IMF programmes. Human development considerations i.e. poverty reduction, health, education and global public policy advocacy around climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs have had growing resonance within IMF Programme considerations and partnering configurations alongside—vehicles of the social safety net provisioning by governments in IMF interventions. Jamaica’s historical passage of interface and negotiations with the institution has traversed tempestuous seas, towards the incorporation of the National Development Plan, and Vision 2030 priorities to be infused within IMF programmatic interventions. A brief review of the modalities of social interventions over the passage of the SBA 2010 to the SBA 2016 is traversed in this chapter, which culminates with reflections on the nexus of the Jamaica IMF interface, mirrored in and translated into the societal domain from the lens of the Jamaican society; who are recipients of the outcomes of the engagement.
