Abstract

Entrepreneurship affects firm survival in two opposite ways. Because it is the starting point of the growth process, entrepreneurship may contribute innovation and organizational renewal, essential ingredients for organizational long-term survival. On the other hand, there is reason to be against entrepreneurship, because it may threaten organizational existence, if one carries it out in an irresponsible manner. This chapter puts forward a dual mechanism that links entrepreneurship and growth to organizational survival in a constructive or destructive way. It explores the responsible and irresponsible entrepreneurship notions, focusing on entrepreneurship’s constructive/destructive potential, likely pitfalls and adverse consequences on firm survival and other affected entities.
