Workplace Bullying Laws in Asia

Abstract

This chapter provides a detailed summary of the major labor laws in a few selected countries in Asia. The existing legal ordinances on workplace bullying in the Asian continent, within China, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan, are mentioned in this chapter. It is revealed that the Asian continent with the exemption of Singapore lacks specific labor laws which protect employees from all forms of psychological, physical, and mental harassment and bullying faced at their workplaces. The legal system of Singapore is the most comprehensive, having legal enactments which safeguard employees from all forms of harassment, that is, racial and sexual, cyberbullying, and occupational hazards. While the legal measures for pawahara, or power harassment, provide legal protections for employees in Japan, the other countries in contrast just possess basic laws on sexual harassment and equal employment opportunity regardless of gender, age, and disability.
