Abstract

This chapter introduces the topic of workplace bullying, defines it as repeated exposure to constant abuse, offensive remarks, and criticism causing an employee to feel inadequate, incompetent, and stressed, raising concerns about human rights violation and ethical code of conduct. The chapter questions reasons behind the existence of workplace bullying despite its negative consequences and its acceptance by the management, thereby recommending workplace bullying be explored under a critical paradigm lens to unpack the hidden power dynamics and its manipulation tendencies. This chapter highlights the rationale for the book, which is to provide a fresh perspective on workplace bullying, by critiquing its varied facets and dimensions to expose its dark side as a management control tactic.
