Abstract

It’s important to know that there are enough gold pieces so the party can buy the supplies required to make it through the next stage of each campaign. There are the known costs and there are unknowns. A good accounting of what any adventuring party has and a good idea of where and how new endeavors will be financed allows the rest of the organization to expand with confidence and in ways that don’t potentially risk everything through poor planning. There are a lot of hurdles to run a company, as with a role-playing game—but one of the most important aspects of executional excellence is to get a grasp on the finances of any organization. We need to know where all our gold pieces are and where they need to go, have a snapshot of the financial well-being of the adventuring party months in advance, and know how fast we’re burning through hard-fought-for cash. This allows us to grow safely, to have peace of mind, and to speak knowingly to all the stakeholders in our endeavors.
