Abstract

Not everybody will be with your company forever. People get fired. People leave. In the workplace of today and tomorrow, unless someone has done something egregiously wrong, nobody wants to burn bridges Even if someone had a shitty manager or an obnoxious co-worker, people don’t want to see their entire time at a company as a write-off, especially with Gen Z, where in their career path so much of their work will be project-based. You might end up working with these people again in some capacity or another. So, when the time rolls around for an employee to move on, treat them well. Keep in touch. Some companies have even created alumni newsletters, working to maintain the bonds forged during their employment. You put time into these people, and they invested in your success in return, often for years. You’ve made an impact on each other in some way, shape, or form. Maintaining and honoring that connection at least deserves to have them on the Christmas card list.
