Abstract

We started the journey that led to this book with the aim to better understand the impact that culture has on Agile adoption. During our journey we were not only exposed to Agile practices that were new to us, but what had a greater impact on us was being exposed to different perspectives of viewing the world. Our own journey and thinking has evolved beyond the impact that culture has on Agile adoption, to the individuals and interactions of diverse Agile teams. Diversity goes beyond differences such as gender, race, and ethnicity. It includes different abilities, learning styles, specialties, and experiences to name just a few. In a world where teams and organizations are more diverse than ever, there are great opportunities in leveraging this diversity, but diversity without true inclusion gives little benefit and could even be detrimental.
