Abstract

Al Maurice joined the Rohm and Hass Company (which is now a part of the Dow Chemical Company) in 1982 after completing his PhD in physical chemistry at the University of Illinois. For the next 17 years, he worked in the emulsion polymer synthesis field, holding positions of increasing responsibility. His primary focus has been architectural coatings, with excursions into traffic paint, ultraviolet-cured coatings, and leather chemicals. In 1992, Maurice was promoted to synthesis section manager for architectural coatings. He became a project leader in 1999, with responsibility for coatings synthesis and applications research. In 2004, he took on the role of global technology manager with responsibility for global segments of architectural coatings research and development. In 2010, he moved up the technical ladder, becoming a Dow Fellow.
