Introductory 3M&I-Body Problem

Abstract

Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR) could be regarded as the art of 3M&I-body systems, in which 3M is the human, material/machine, and money and I is the information. This chapter reviews the IEOR versus Wiener’s cybernetics issues, and relates sandwich and balancing propositions to the nature versus artifacts body of research. The former (sandwich) would probably be caused by the dualism (double property) of Matsui’s, Newton’s, and Jewell’s equations, and the latter (balancing) originates in the invisible body-balancing principle and economics shown by the medium criteria in supply chain management (SCM)/Smart city. There are also two approaches of artificial intelligence (AI)/Internet of Things (IoT) and Matsui’s matrix/3D, but only the latter will be focused on and developed in this book. Finally, a review of the tendency toward post-ERP/SCM is given for higher management. For example, the enterprise resource planning (ERP) may be partially replaced by CEO or enterprise robots, and SCM will probably be replaced by cloud balancing in the near future.
