Work Wellness in South Africa: A History of Change

Abstract

In this chapter, the dynamicChange dynamic and complicated series of systems associated with society is explored through focussing on a South African context. Since 1990s, socialChange social change became a regular concept in South Africa, due to the sociopoliticalTransformation sociopolitical transformation that the country experienced. The establishment of a societal corporatistApproach normative societal corporatist corporatistApproach corporatist approach to labour relations has a direct influence on other systems in the wider societyWider society . These changes also influence the employmentEmployment relation, being the primary relationshipEmployment primary relationship between the employer, with the employer’s organisationsEmployer’s organisations and the employee, with the labour unions, and within the labour relation systemLabour relations system . Furthermore, the link between the employee–organisation relations (EOR)Employee–organisation relations and the economic value ofWellness economic value of wellness is investigated in this chapter.
