Abstract

This chapter portrays the present expansion in foreign investment inflow in the Textile and Clothing (T&C) industry of India which has long been dominated by domestic capital. The liberalization of its foreign investment regulations has made India one of the fastest growing destinations for foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows. The study elucidates the nature, volume, and source of foreign investment inflow over the years, in addition to the percentages of FDI in total value added to the textile and clothing industry of India over the entire reform period. Besides, it also takes into account the recent spree of Indian T&C firms to cross-border Merger and Acquisition (M&A) trend by exhibiting the case studies of some top T&C firms in India.
