Abstract

This chapter discusses the findings of this Brief. The seemingly simple general equilibrium cost-benefit rule relates to a quite complex framework integrating many complex issues. We use this framework to assess a proposal according to which water is diverted from electricity generation to the natural river channel (dryway) creating environmental and recreational benefits. The second study uses a very different approach to re-regulations of rivers. The investigated proposal is designed so that virtually everybody is better off. At least this is the idea. This Win-Win approach is subjected to an empirical test. In this final chapter we briefly discuss the pros and cons of the two approaches and how they can be applied to other sharp conflicts about the use of scarce natural resources.
