Abstract

On May 26, 1988 a dissertation with statements was defended at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. The first statement by the young doctor—and therefore in his view the most important—was: The science policy in The Netherlands is pervaded by a spirit of fabrilism, which misunderstands the nature and task of the university, and therefore forms in increasing measure a threat to academic freedom
