The Great Football Wars: The Forgotten Combatant

Abstract

The seminal work of Quirk and Fort in Paydirt (1992) laid the conceptual foundation for much of the research in sports economics that has occurred over the past 30 years. Their work was as broad as it was deep and spanned most of the major subfields of sports economics that exist today—including analyses of everything from owners’ behavior and motivations, competitive balance, revenue sharing, salary determination, stadium financing, and more.
