Abstract

Relational contracting emphasizes long-term partnerships, mutual benefits, and adaptive problem-solving, contrasting with traditional transactional contracting. Despite its advantages, implementing relational contracting faces significant barriers, including internal organizational challenges and external environmental factors. This chapter explores these barriers through theoretical frameworks and real-world case studies, offering strategies and solutions for organizations aiming to adopt relational contracting. It underscores the importance of organizational culture, leadership, and structural dynamics in fostering successful relational contracts. Furthermore, it discusses the potential of relational contracting to operate within broader relational networks, facilitating more resilient, equitable, and innovative economic ecosystems. The chapter concludes by advocating a balanced approach that integrates both relational and transactional models to navigate the complexities of modern business environments.
