Abstract

Consulting firms have the ambition to help their clients in the area of digitization. Digitization might affect the consulting industry, too. This paper reviews different long-term views and evaluates current developments of the industry in order to work towards an answer to the question: Does digitization matter and will it transform the consulting business? The paper comes to the conclusion that consulting firms will at least be impacted with respect to their client engagements and internal measures for efficiency increase. Especially for those consulting firms, which offer large-scale professional services, there will be an impact on their core business, too. Many of them have the size to be attractive for embedded automation efforts.
