Abstract

This chapter navigates the main sectors within the healthcare industry, reflecting the diverse health needs of individuals and communities. It examines the differences between public and private healthcare sectors, the levels of care, and the roles of different types of hospitals. It outlines the healthcare system’s structure, the various types of facilities, key stakeholders, and the necessity of personalized healthcare access to all patients. It also briefly highlights the importance of technology advancements, as well as the risks and challenges they bring to the healthcare sector, including the crucial need for robust cybersecurity in today’s interconnected digital age to minimize the risks of data breaches, which is explored in greater depth in the following chapters. This chapter can help readers gain a better grasp of how technological innovations are improving healthcare quality and accessibility and the need to ensure cybersecurity for patient safety and trust.
