Abstract

Indonesia’s transition towards a market-based economy necessitates reevaluating the role of entrepreneurship education within the country. Employing a cultural approach, this study investigates the relationship between specific entrepreneurial characteristics and entrepreneurial spirit among Indonesians. While numerous personality traits have been linked to successful entrepreneurs, this study focuses on five attributes: risk-taking propensity, tolerance for ambiguity, internal locus of control, innovativeness, and independence. These traits may not be widely ingrained within the traditional culture of Indonesia, potentially hindering the effectiveness of entrepreneurship promotion efforts. Accordingly, the study contends that entrepreneurship education programs in Indonesia must be adapted to address the unique cultural landscape of the nation. These programs should be designed to cultivate and instill the necessary entrepreneurial characteristics, acknowledging the cultural nuances that shape the entrepreneurial spirit among the Indonesian population. By doing so, entrepreneurship education programs can effectively align with the goals and vision of the reformation, ultimately fostering a vibrant ecosystem of innovative and competitive entrepreneurs throughout Indonesia.
