Abstract

This study investigates into the dynamics of knowledge dissemination and tensions within online communities (OCs), using Reddit discussions surrounding the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for electric vehicles as a case study. OCs serve as fertile grounds for knowledge exchange through lively interactions and shared interests. Yet, the inevitable presence of debates and uncertainties often sparks tensions among participants. The research focuses on the crucial roles played by mediators and organizers in mediating these tensions and fostering an environment conducive to knowledge sharing. Analysis of Reddit discussions from July 2013 to February 2024 reveals a notable shift in the community towards NACS, following Ford’s adoption announcement. These findings contribute to research on governance and leadership dynamics in OC.
