Abstract

This study examines the sustainability practices and challenges faced by a five-star coastal tourist accommodation in the Mediterranean region. The aim is to assess the facility's progress over a three-year period (2017–2019) in sustainability management, socioeconomic and cultural impacts, and environmental effects. Utilizing mixed-method research, qualitative and quantitative data analysis was conducted. Findings indicate the facility's commitment to sustainable practices; however, limited advancements were observed in sustainability management, socioeconomic, and cultural impacts. Nonetheless, progress was noted in environmental impact, suggesting a prioritization of environmental sustainability. The study underscores the importance of fostering a sustainable culture within accommodation facilities, requiring sufficient resources and effective communication with stakeholders. Identified best practices and improvement opportunities can raise sustainability awareness and performance. Implications for the real estate and tourism sectors emphasize integrating sustainable practices in accommodation design, construction, and operation. Collaborative efforts among stakeholders are essential for creating a sustainable tourism industry that promotes economic, environmental, and social well-being. The study's outcomes inform future policies and strategies to enhance sustainability practices in real estate and tourism.
