Abstract

The issue of sustainability and responsibility in the clothing industry is currently significant because this industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. This chapter aims to investigate consumer behavior when buying clothes in Slovakia and the use of the new environmentally responsible trends in this area. This chapter presents the selected results of the primary research carried out in November and December 2022 through a structured online questionnaire on a sample of 743 respondents. Several mathematical and statistical tests were used to evaluate the collected primary data—Friedman’s test, chi-square test of independence, Mann–Whitney test, Spearman’s correlation coefficient, and Wilcoxon’s test. The results show that most respondents buy clothes in fashion or retail chains by default. Respondents are most influenced by price, design/color, and high-quality/sustainable material when buying clothes. The most frequently used environmentally responsible trend is second-hand, which is used by half of the respondents. Other investigated trends are less known and used. The most durability/sustainability and quality of the materials used, which is stated by more than 60% of respondents.
