Abstract

Universities have become aware of their broader global responsibility in the sustainability agenda. Evaluation systems in the field of sustainable development should be developed, the objectives and indicators of ESG should be integrated into the activities of universities, since they occupy a unique position in society—they create and disseminate knowledge. The purpose of this article is to examine the universities’ ESG rankings to assess the results in sustainable development. The article provides for the use of logical and dialectical methods, comparative analysis, observation methods, methods of expert assessment. The article analyzes the potential problems arising from the results of the ESG ratings, which generates user failure of trust in the functioning of this market and raises fears about the consistency and reliability of such data. The article also systematizes ESG ratings and proposes a classification of ratings that allows users to better understand the different types of information they provide. In addition, here have been developed the criteria for evaluating the activities of the university for assigning an ESG rating, which will allow integrate the principles of sustainable development into the activities of the university. The article outlines the prospects for further development of directions for regulating the information services market for assigning the ESG rating, which will help universities better adapt to new conditions.
