Managing Procurement Ability Over Time: A Study of Swedish Construction Clients

There is a challenge in the construction sector to transfer knowledgeKnowledge from individuals and teams to the rest of the organisation. For a construction clientConstruction clients organisation, one such challenge could be to transfer knowledgeKnowledge from procurementProcurements individuals and teams to the organisation as a whole. This study is focused on the procurementProcurements functions within construction clientConstruction clients organisations, with the purpose of increasing the understanding of how these organisations manage their procurementProcurements ability over time. Based on an interview study, the strategies and actions taken within the different organisations represented are analysed and discussed. Empirical material was collected through a series of in-depth interviews and then analysed using a thematic approach and compared with previous research including the maturity modelMaturity models. Although there are examples of integration activities from the interviews, there is a lack of clear visible strategy of how to integrate procurementProcurements process in a learning perspective for both the procurementProcurements process in itself as well as for the whole construction project managementProject management process. More research is needed to increase the understanding of procurementProcurements as a value-adding process and how knowledgeKnowledge sharing and knowledgeKnowledge transfer can increase the learning concept in relation to procurementProcurements in construction.
