Abstract

Road transport has been dominating the transport sector for many years and has a significant impact on socio-economic development in Poland and the EU (e.g. in Poland in 2017, 303,000 employees were employed in road transport, which was 41% of employees in all modes of transport). Road transport is also of great importance for the development of local government units, which also results from easy access to the profession of a road transport operator. The aim of the empirical research was: to estimate the potential of enterprises related to commercial road transport of goods in poviats of Pomorskie voivodeship (for this purpose an original indicator describing this variable was developed), to research on the impact of socio-economic development of the region and the potential of the analysed enterprises. This paper uses methods of statistical description. In effect of the conducted research, it was shown that the development of road transport enterprises is more intense in economically weaker regions.
