Abstract

Numbers of electric vehicles (EVs) are increasing, but undersized connection lines and a lack of charging stations limit how many can be charged concurrently. When this limitation is combined with peaking power demands there is a clear need for smart charging. We present a two-step approach for smart charging that considers phase-wise power assignment. First, a mixed integer linear programming model is used for day-ahead planning. Resulting charging schedules are then used as input for a proposed schedule guided heuristic for real-time planning. Experimental results from simulations show improved fair share among EVs and reduced energy costs.
