Mediation in Environmental Disputes

Abstract

This chapter focuses on the importance of an integrated approach of the various dispute avoidance and/or resolution tools for environmental issues. Environmental conflicts are, in fact, complex and multifaceted; therefore, the synergy for a long-standing and efficient coexistence of all stakeholders has to be ensured also by the adoption of dialogue-based tools and solutions. Specifically, the author reports the experience of the environmental mediation project carried out by the Mediation Service by the Milan Chamber of Arbitration and some public and private stakeholders.
