Abstract

Today, society strongly relies on a working electrical power distribution system, i.e. a power grid that supplies instantaneously all the required electricity demand. If this supply can no longer be organized, significant negative repercussions for individuals, companies and government follow. In this chapter we apply graph theory to analyze the vulnerability of a power grid with real demand and supply data. Linear programming (LP) is used to calculate UD and the resulting loss in network performance. Different attack strategies are simulated with a focus on events below the black-out threshold.
