“Hibernating” in Cairo: COVID-19, as seen from Egypt

Abstract

Spending most of the COVID-19 pandemic in Cairo (Egypt) has been an amazing and eye-opening experience, and probably a less stressful one than one might have expected before. Compared to, say, Germany, Egypt has by and large managed this crisis rather well, despite its relatively poor health infrastructure. I can only speculate as to why that’s the case, but a median age of 24, spending lots of time outside, and swiftly enforcing vaccination mandates have likely contributed.
