Abstract

As we noted earlier, scientists organize themselves into scholarly societies, publishing research results in society journals and attending scientific conferences. These activities are peer-reviewed by the community for scientific quality. All that scientific information is for free, and scientists do not get paid for publication of scientific results. Instead, scientists find employment teaching in universities or doing research in industrial or in governmental labs. How do scientists in these different kinds of employment settings interact as research communities?
