The Austrian and German “Economist” in the Interwar Period: International Aspects

Abstract

The Oesterreichische (OV) and later the Deutsche Volkswirt (DV) provide useful information about the events of the interwar period. They reflect the views of the economic sector in both German-speaking countries. Of course, the qualities (rapidity) and defects (precipitation) of the periodic press are to be taken into account. After an introduction, I shall examine the reactions of the weeklies in respect of international occurrences, successively on the Treaty of Versailles and on the reparation problems. A short conclusion follows.
