Abstract

In this chapter the views of the economy, ethics, development, and the relationship between them that underpin the perspective on CSR upon which this book rests are presented. The chapter helps setting the stage for the subsequent discussion of the issues on which this book focuses. The concept of sustainable human development associated with the work of Amartya Sen is linked to CSR, which is depicted as the contribution of corporations to such development.
