Abstract

The aviation industry stands at the confluence of sustainability and safety, striving to balance environmental responsibility with passenger and crew well-being. This chapter explores the integration of sustainable practices across various facets of aviation, including fuel-efficient aircraft design, sustainable airport operations, and the cultivation of a culture of responsibility among aviation professionals. It explores the transformative impact of technological innovations such as electric and hybrid propulsion systems, Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs), and advanced materials on safety and sustainability. The chapter also emphasises the importance of global collaboration and cultural sensitivity in promoting a unified approach to sustainability and safety culture in aviation. It concludes that a commitment to innovation, education, and collective action is vital for propelling the industry towards a future where air travel is both environmentally responsible and inherently safe.
