Abstract

This article describes how social innovationSocial innovation and social entrepreneurshipSocial entrepreneurship can support the United NationsUnited Nations in meeting the 2030 target year of achievement of the 17 Sustainable DevelopmentSustainable development GoalsSustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (SDG). In the United NationsUnited Nations (UN) Resolution adopted by the General AssemblyGeneral Assembly on 25 September 2015 it is stated that the UN “call[s] upon all businesses to apply their creativity and innovation to solving sustainableSustainable development challengesGeneral Assembly ” (United Nations, General Assembly 2015, p. 29). The world’s development challenges can also represent business opportunities for social innovationsSocial innovation . EntrepreneurshipEntrepreneurship can be an important driver, enabler and empowering tool for sustainable developmentSustainable development . Especially social entrepreneursSocial entrepreneurs aim to explore market opportunities and to create new (innovative) sustainable solutions for economic, socialSocial and/or environmental challenges. Therefore, they are seen as problem-solvers in the areas covered by the 17 Sustainable DevelopmentSustainable development Goals (SDG)Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) .
